In a quiet spot, a little off to the side in a lively pond, sat a small frog on a lily pad. Dragonflies buzzed, fish splashed, and the other frogs croaked wildly all at once. A young frog hopped over curiously and asked: "Hey, what are you actually doing? Why aren’t you jumping around or catching flies?" The frog on the pad kept his eyes closed and said softly: "I breathe in… I breathe out… that’s what I do."The young frog stared in surprise. Then the meditating frog slowly opened one eye and smiled: "This is my happy place."The young frog thought for a moment and said: "But how? It’s all so loud and busy!" The frog smiled and said: "Maybe you can’t make the world quiet. But you can make yourself quiet. Try it." The young frog fell silent and focused on his breath. And for the first time, he heard how beautifully the water rippled, and how calm it could feel even in the middle of the noise.
To become calm is something you can practice. You don’t have to change the world only how you relate to it.When you become still and listen to your breath, you will find peace within yourself. Just like the frog on his lily pad.
Food for thought:
You don’t have to wait for everything around you to become quiet. The world can stay noisy but you can choose to be calm. Breathe in… breathe out… your peace begins within you.
